This Oregon Coast Beach maternity session was extra special for a few reasons. Most importantly, it was special because we got to photograph my sister and brother-in-law! This was David and my first time officially photographing a family member–when we actually knew what we were doing, that is–thanks for modeling for my learning self years ago, Kendra! They went along with all our of our craziness and were absolutely amazing in front of the camera! We loved getting to show them a true Karli and David experience and giving them a look into what we do with our clients everyday.
Secondly, this session was our first ever official destination session! We absolutely love living in Boise, Idaho. We get to shoot in a place that offers tons of variety from mountains, to rivers, and dunes. However, it was so fun to branch out and shoot somewhere totally and completely different than Idaho for this session! When our family trip to the Oregon Coast was booked a month before their baby boy’s arrival, I knew we couldn’t pass up the chance to shoot Kendra and Joe’s maternity session there. My lifelong dreams of taking portraits on the beach at golden hour were finally fulfilled!
Lastly, my sister and I have grown up going to this same little beach town with our family just about every single year of our lives. Manzanita, Oregon is a quaint little town just a few minutes south of the very popular Cannon Beach. It’s filled with unique locally owned shops, plenty of ice cream options, and a park, all within walking distance. We grew up as kids riding bikes around town, walking on the beach, and sneaking away to buy ice cream with Grandpa’s money with what felt like all of the freedom in the world. It was so sweet to shoot their maternity session in a place that is full of so many heartwarming memories and childhood nostalgia. Next year, the tradition will continue on as our family grows even larger with the addition of their baby boy.
It was so special to freeze this moment in time for Kendra and Joe on one of the last trips that they got to take together before officially growing their family. We are so excited to meet their baby boy in just a few weeks!
